Barangay Ponong according to the early   people refers to Ponong , which  means that many years ago ,various kind of pond can be everywhere along the Barangay.

Barangay Ponong is a mountainous barangay, it is located along the national roads with cement roads, It has two roads and one is going to Lunoy,and Cayongcong property. Ponong is a 10 minutes ride going to the town proper which is Larena and or approximately 5.5 kilometres from the town of Larena to Enrique Villanueva. Before   Barangay Ponong is Barangay Canlambo and next to Barangay   Ponong is Barangay Balolang it is also mountainous barangay in the Municipality of Larena. It consists of [3] puroks namely, purok-I Mahogany, Purok-2 Fire Tree, Purok-3 Langka , Barangay Ponong is one of the twenty Tree Barangay in the Municipality of Larena.

There are Ponongnians who are enganed on farming, Only few owned sari-sari Store.Some are engaged in fishing although the sea is far from our barangay.There also professional who are government and private employees ,retireds  ones who are already pensioner and Overseas Filipino Workers OFW’s.

The barangay has Roman Catholic Chapel located between tha land of Enrique Villanueva and Ponong.Most of the people living are Roman Catholic by the virtue of religion.It has 1 Barangay Hall, 1 Multipurpose pavement ,1 Day Care Center and 1 Health Station located  at  Purok-2 Fire Tree.
